Ignition Control Module '96 2.2L

Well, it's finally happened to mine...it's been idling rough and stalling occasionally at low speeds in any weather for about a year or so, but always starts right back up again and runs great until the next time. Almost like something resets itself. This time, however, it wouldn't. It would turn over and over until I finally killed the brand new battery. Checked the first obvious things...fuel pump, TCC solenoid, etc. I gave up and had it towed to my mechanic, and now the only thing they can come up with is the ignition control module. My question is how much should this cost, because he quoted me an unbelievably high repair bill on this one. He also said something about a transponder for bypassing the anti-theft? I'm kind of taking this with a grain of salt after hearing so many stories of Cav owners replacing every possible module, sensor and chip there is and still having the same old problems, so I'm a little hesitant about paying a huge repair bill on something that may or may not fix the problem. Any opinions would be hugely appreciated!

well, for a price on the ICM try www.autozone.com, that may help you decide if they are overcharging ya. Those things aren't cheap, though.

So I had the ECM replaced, and so far so good. She's running great (and STAYING running!), so I guess that's what the culprit was all along. I did, however, unplug the TCC solenoid after having it back a couple of days just for the helluvit. We'll see how it goes...

I believe the ICM is a recall part. Not hard to replace yourself. The steering column does have an expensive piece of plastic that is supposed to be security, but mine only kicked in till after I drove it. Your car may have air starvation problems/exhaust problems.
