sell or keep?

I'm looking to sell my 3000GT, and was wondering what I should upgrade to. I'm looking for something that has serious speed, and could make sub-13 quarter mile times. I know someone will bash me for this, but I was also thinking about buying a Yamaha YZF-600. I would like to buy a VR4, but I only have 10,000 and I would prefer to get a 98' or a 99'. At 16, it's kinda hard to get a higher paying job for over $8.00 an hour. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: sell or keep?

at 16 with a car you are looking for, you better get ready for the new insurance premium. I quoted an 18 year old a 99 vr4 last week at 2700/6 months.

Re: sell or keep?

Yeah, I already checked how much it would be. Right now, I'm paying $500 every 6 months, and that would double if I got a VR4. But from what I have heard and read, it's well worth the cost.

Re: sell or keep?

where do you live, and are you still on your parent's insurance policy? 1000/6 months is damn cheap for a 16 year old....almost too cheap.

Re: sell or keep?

Yeah, I am on my parents policy... I was thinking about getting my own, but the prices would be too ridiculous. I live in Texas, I don't know if that will be a factor, but..yeah

Re: sell or keep?

Well there are a billion options. Are you looking for something cheap, fast in a straight line, v8, smaller engine, boosted, NA, narrow it down a bit. Anyone here could spout of a hundred sub-13 cars...very few are cheap and very few are cheap to insure for a 16 year old.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: sell or keep?

You want cheap sub 13 car for under $10k (parents money? or are you a drug dealer? :P) I'd say a mid 90's Camaro SS should be in ur range. I always say F-bodies (Camaro, Firebird) are the way to go for cheap speed.

But why would you want a 98 VR4, when 94-97 are the same thing basically...you could buy the wing for $100-200. I think you could get a good 2nd gen VR4 for under $10k if you do a lot of searching and get lucky, but not a 98 or 99. Actually there's a 97 w/ under 100k on Ebay right now for $12k...if I could get to Chicago this week to test drive it, I would probably buy it...but that's not happening.

Re: sell or keep?

nope im 21, with 3 speeding tickets, one accident...and other tickets (lost count)...accident was no fault though....I get a good student discount, multi-car discount, defensive driving course discount...discounts up the wazoo...my rates dropped dramatically once i turned 21...I was paying close to $2000/6 months @ 20 yrs old. This is for a SL mind you, not a VR4.

Re: sell or keep?

Yeah, I got my first ticket 2 weeks after I bought the 3K, but I was allowed to take defensive driving. That was the most useless class ever.

Talking

i pay $28 a month for my 93 SL on my own policy. I'm 19 w/ clean record, good student discount, defensive drivers course, and alarm. But when April comes around it will jump up to $90 a month just for liability and I'll have to take the theft and fire coverage off
