So this Friday the 25th of February I go to the mechanic. Here is the list of what's to be done.
1) 4 New Tires (Balancing and Wheel Alignment) Any suggestions on tires? (Yes GTP Dad hopefully this will solve my shaking at 120 km/hr problem) 2) New Battery 3) Transmission Fluid and Filter Change 4) Coolant Fluid Change 5) Cabin Filter Change 6) Fuel Injector Cleaning Anyone use the Slick 50 Treatment and was it worth it? I drive about a 1000 km a week so I change my oil every other month. Is it worth going to semi synthetic or fully synthetic oil? I have about 115 000 km on my Grand Prix and I am keeping it for the long haul. Thanks a lot! |

Re: Slick 50, semi-synthetic, fully synthetic oil, new tires thoughts?
Here's a good place to buy tires on line
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...004142&yr=1998 I have never used or wanted to use slick 50 or anything else in my motor. But everything else your doing is OK. Quote:

Thanks - and I am getting the serpentine belt changed. Yes I am bringing a few books to read while I am at the shop.

Re: Slick 50, semi-synthetic, fully synthetic oil, new tires thoughts?
I hope it does solve your problem. I purchased Kumho tires from tirerack.com. The price was great and the tires do very well in snow, good handling in the rain and wet, noise is minimal. Have a 50K mile warranty. As far as the oil, go with synthetic. It will last longer and do better at lubricating the engine. Even though you have a high mileage vehicle the engine should do very well on the synthetic. I have 140K miles on my GTP and use Mobil 1. Still doesn't burn any oil! I have a new Jeep and use Amsoil. Both are equally good. If you go with the full synthetic leave the Slick 50 alone. I have never used it and don't intend to.

Re: Slick 50, semi-synthetic, fully synthetic oil, new tires thoughts?
#1 my car has 127k on it, and i use the maxlife full synthetic oil. keeps the leaks to a minimum and it is full synthetic
#2, under no circumstance should you use slick 50 the makers of slick 50 was sued by the government because it scorches cylinder walls. now, no more slick 50 in any government or military vehicles. mobil one kicks ass tho. best on the market. i just switched to the maxlife cause of the mileage. preventitive thing. |
