Angry ABS light on

I have a problem with my Grand Am 2001 V6 3.4 l. The ABS light keeps coming on. But a strange fact is, most of the times the light comes on is after I back up or I move the wheel while the car is not moving. Strange thing. I scanned it at a shop and they said that the sensors are worn off. Cost 540 to replace both of then. Didn't do it.What should I do? Can it be something else?
Other thing is the transmission when it shifts from the second to third gear is kind of rough. It has an automatic trans. That happens only after I drove for a while.

Re: ABS light on

Sounds like toasted sensors. Re the shifting, flush and fill the tranny fluid, and have the vacuum modulator and it's hose looked at.

I wouldn't reccomend flushing the tranny. The shifting could be caused by something else, possibly MAF or solenoid related, but aside from that, depending on how many miles you have on your GA, I wouldn't recomend a tranny flush. On cars that have a significant amount of miles, flushing the tranny can break loose all sorts of good growse stuff that's built up in the tranny over the years. If some of that shit breaks loose and gets into the right spots, you can be looking at a tranny rebuild. A fluid / filter change, yes, but I'd advise against a flush unless it's low mileage.

Actually, ride is right, I screwed up. I meant drain and fill, not flush and fill, my bad. Thanks for catching that oops, ride.

Re: ABS light on

The car has 72 000 miles. I heard that is not good to change the trans fluid on high milleage. Is the 2001 a bad year for Grand Am?
Thx.
