92 Continental Air compressor/dryer replacement

I bought a 92 continental and have to replace the air compressor/air dryer on it. the problem is, i can't get the air lines off of the air dryer...

can anyone tell me how to get those off?

To get the air line off the dryer, take a flat head screw driver and push in on the orange locator ring, and pull out on the air line at the same time. You will have to push in on the orange ring fairly hard. If you have any problems, let me know and I will help as much as possible.

thanks a lot! that did it...

now i just have to find out what else is leaking, b/c the car wont come up at all...

is the air suspension just for the front axle or is it for all 4 wheels? (i cant remember if the the rear wheels ever came up when the compressor worked...and even now with the compressor not raising the car, they are clearly on a higher level than the front wheels)

The 88-94 continentals all come eqipped from the factory with 4 Air Struts(one for each wheel). If the compressor is not lifting the car, I would believe you have leaks in your air struts. Even though the compressor will not lift the car, you can manually pump up the bags. To do this, get a 12 volt battery and connect one wire to EACH connector. Locate the wires going into the solenoids on one of the struts. Tap into that line and apply the 12 volt current. You should here two clicks. That should activate the solenoid and cause it to OPEN. Remove the air line at the bottum of the solenoid, and use your rubber ended air nozzle in place of the air line connection to pump up the bag. When the air bag is firm, remove the 12 volt current from the line. Again, you should here two clicks(that should close the solenoid). Repeat this same process to fill all the bags. Make sure the switch in the trunk is turned to the OFF position after completion. If you need some more help or clarification on this proceedure let me know and I'll do my best to help. Good Luck!

i decided to go with a 4 wheel spring conversion kit from strutmasters.com and everything worked fine until i tryed to start the car.
The instructions told me to unplug the air suspension module, and connect the green wire from the air suspension test plug to the ground wire on the air suspension plug.

when i turn the key the display starts to flash, and the anti-lock brake light comes on and of course the engine won't start...

can anyone tell me how to fix this? or any clue what may be wrong?

Where was the module at that you cut the wires from. If you cut the wires from the correct module there is no way it could have disabled your cars ability to start, as the control module for the air suspension is only connected to the air suspension. Let me know the location of the module you were working on and a breif physical description of the module itself. I will try to do my best to help you out of the this jam.

sounds like you may have possibly cut and grounded the fuel pump wire.

I think aristo1963 is correct. What is the latest, have you recieved a responce from strutmasters. If not I would call. Post back and let us know the specifics mentioned in my previous post and maybe we can be of more help here.

The battery was almost empty from just sitting there for weeks...

Yes, it drives maybe a little bit rougher than on the air suspension but way better than without it

I do need to fix the "check DCL" light but thats not of big importance (except for the annoying beeping

)

Car looks GREAT. As in everything, there are some tradeoffs. The standard suspension may not be as smooth but it will handle better and is a LOT more reliable. At least you don't ever have to worry about having NO suspension ever again. If you have any more problems witht the car, you know where to come. Help is always just one post away.
