Need a Tranny / miscellaneous

Hey all! Can anyone tell me if they know of an available transmission in good shape for an 86 Si? I think mine is shot..it pops out of 5th gear if I let off the gas and I cannot get it into reverse at all

If it will fit, I'd like to see how a 3rd gen Si tranny works in a 2nd gen Lude, I've definetely got the torque for the taller gearing RE: Port N Polish and 3 angle valve job plus air intake..

My 86 Si has monster torque, you guys should all have your heads worked this way! Good, clean, hard pulling all the way to redline, it's great! Oh yeah, almost forgot most important thing: I use Royal Purple 10 W 30 synthetic oil and Wix oil filters (although I'd like to get a K&N oil filter) and you should too..once you do, you'll never go back to Castrol or Mobile 1 synthetics..

Only drawback was it cost me quite a bit I think around $1,500 for the machine work alone.

Do you know what manual transmission is in a 85 prelude?
Thanks,

Uh..I think what you meant to ask is what generation model is the 85 prelude, it's a 2nd generation.

Is there an Si for that year model? I'm not sure, but it seems like 86 was the first year for Si and Fuel injection..

anyway..my point is this..if your prelude is an Si, it requires a different transmission than the base S model, which has less horsepower, therefor shorter gearing, for torque, to get the car moving.

Re: Need a Tranny / miscellaneous

I was looking to see what model transmissions could be found in a prelude. I am considering upgrading my 4 speed in my 91' Civic Hatch STD 4speed and I ran across a prelude transmission. I am hoping that it might be able to mount up.
Peace,
Christopher Vigil

I seriously doubt it will match up correctly. Hell, the honda dealership has had my prelude for 3 months now trying to find the correct transmission for it. They tried to put in an S model transmission from the same year model and it didn't match up.

You're better off trying to find a 5sp from another 91 civic to put in your car.

Get rid of the prelude and focus on your 280Z.. I miss my 240z... she was a good ride..

I am sure you can find which models bolt up to that prelude

Actually, I don't have a 280Z Although, at one time I did have a 280ZX..it was a blast to drive. I'd love to have a 280Z in good condition though..one of my dreams is to open a custom Z car and Vintage Corolla and Celica shop where I can build bad ass old school japanese hot rods that would dust all the coffee can ricers on the road today..that would make me happy I really dig the retro japs..ofcourse I love my Prelude also.
