Question about Rims and Tires

Hey guys, I drive an 00' GT. I want to get some 18" rims, but want a few suggestions from you all about specs. Im lookin for some 18" x 8" rims with some pretty aggressive tires. First of all, the majority of the rims that I see are 18" x 7.5"...is there that big of a difference in performance from that of an 8" wide? (i know it depends on the tires...but just a question in general). Also, i dont know a whole lot about tire numbers (aka- 245/45/18). I know that the first is the width, then sidewall and then wheel size. But what is a good set of numbers that will not be too rough on normal driving, but still offer good performance at the track. Thanks

Anyone who cares, im looking at some Gunmetal (my are is black...but i HATE black rims)finish 7 spokes (I kinda like the split 5 spoke, but not real sure exactly what looks the best). Im also not sure how I feel about rims with all the little bolts just under the lip...looks kinda cool, but im thinking its a pain in the ass to clean. Thanks for the help

Re: Question about Rims and Tires

as far as width, you should be strait with 225's. maybe because its 18" a bit wider. 235? 225's are what i had on my 17's and now again on the 16's. good tires might be bit pricey for the 18" wheel.

Re: Question about Rims and Tires

I've been looking around for tires for a while and it seems pretty decent rubber is going for around 115-120 per tire. If you go all out and get ultra high performance tires such as toyo proxes or another similar R compound tire i've seen them around 200 a tire for 18 inch wheels.

Re: Question about Rims and Tires

im getting yokohoma H4s this week. they have a 500 tread wear rating and they are $135 per tire. in comparison, my yokohoma avs es100s had a 280 tread wear rating.

however, the H4s are not a high performance tire. i am getting them b/c i drive my car about 1000 miles a week. i need tires that will last more than a couple of months.

Then for the winter ill put snows on my stock fronts and slide around like i always do...for a FWD car, it sux, anyone else notice that?>

e-brake drifter. happens down here in FLA when it rains a lot and the side of the roads are wet. haul ass, and hold on! those stretches of grass probably dont compare to ice though......

Re: Question about Rims and Tires

actually wet grass is pretty close to ice, you just don't SLIDE quite as far but either is a total rush when you come out of it in one piece

the difference is that you CHOSE to go on grass....the ice isnt an option. Nebraska winters suck...and its worse when other drivers are retarded and dont realize that after you get going you also have to STOP!!! Ive had to move out of the way of people because they were gonna ass ram me....fuckin hippies

Re: Question about Rims and Tires

Nothin beets snow and ice more than a turbo AWD though. Having complete controll, and yet sliding around at the same time is awesome!
