Typical Dealership
My X just hit 105K, so I called the dealership to get a quote for changing the timing belt. The service guys tells me $800 and it will take a day and a half to do the work. This just sounded shady to me. So I talk to my friend who works in the service dept. about doing the work. He couldn't, so the Sr. Tech there did it. $385 and 3 hours later I have my timing belt (and everything that goes with it) changed (he did it on a Saturday at the dealership cause the service dept. isn't open Saturdays). How do dealerships get by with this bull crap??

Re: Typical Dealership
Doesn't sound like you had them change your water pump while he was in there. That was the perfect time to do it. As for the qoute, it was just book time.

Re: Typical Dealership
Dealerships bill by the labor guide rate. It may quote 5 hours for a job and that's what you pay, but it may only take the tech 2 hours. The tech gets paid the same way, so he may "book" 14 hours worth of work in an 8 hour day, the faster he works, the more jobs he books.
