I'm guessing you have a 94 DX/LX (D15B7) since you are looking into the Mini-me swap. Since you have a 94 civic, use a D16Z6 head. Also use the ecu for the D16Z6. If you have an auto tranny, use an auto ecu, manual use a manual ecu. The D16Z6 is found on the 92-95 civic EX, the 92-95 civic Si Hatchback, and I think the Del Sol Si also.

thats right, d15b7 with manual tranny....so i should get a d16z6 from a 92-95 civic? ex right....how much u think that would cost and level of difficulty to put it in?

d16z6 swap

Last year I did the d16z6 swap with my 92 civic Dx, The swap was very easy tecnically speaking, make sure that you get the right wiring harness for the motor, although the only thing that was diffrent was the connector for the vtec, solenoid. I actually just made a plug my self and wired that into the plug from the ECU inside the engine compartment. U may want to invest in a bigger radiator for the car, because i sometimes have trouble with the temp creeping up a little when going down the freeway in summer(I may just need a new radiator in general, I used the one that originally came with the car). Other than that the swap went really well, and the motor is still runnin great.

Re: mini me sohc vtec....d-series 4 life!

well thnx a bunch for that reply....its always good getting reassuring replies when this is my only car, and the onyl car i can afford...the only thing that may bother me is the whole process: unbolting i can handle, but reassembly may be tricky for me, not sure why but i have my doubts....also, is there anything about the ditrsibutor i need to change or replace? or is that only when i would do a swap form a 96-00 vtec engine? also, how hard is it to reset your timing, or maybe even advance it...i was thinking of adding an adjustable cam gear while i was at it...im not worrying about the wiring, thats one thing im good at....any other tips can help guys i always liek to think big things through before i go about doing them, especially on my car.

Sounds like you had some kind of cooling problem. There's no need to swap out a stock radiator for a d16z6, the stock one will work just fine.

You should get a service manual for your car (preferably a Helms). This is the best thing anyone car buy for their car.

distributor

Definately get a service manual I used a Haynes, but any kind should do. You will need the distributor for the d16z6 engine because the distributor from your old engine will not line up with the new bolt holes on your new engine(it does look quite similar though). we found this out after we had the motor already in and went to put on the distributor and it wouldnt fit. Had a couple days wait to get the new one. Find someone with a timing light because this makes normal timing or advancing the timing very easy.

Alright, HT's last two issues (march/april) had "wrenchin'" articles focusing on a mini-me swap in an LX. They used the Z6 head also. They went from 91 to 121 hp and 89 to 91 ft-lbs. They also had a chart with compression for different combinations.

Cylinder Head | Cylinder Block | Compression |

| . Z6 . | . Z6 . | 9.13 : 1 |
| . Z6 . | . Y8 . | 9.29 : 1 |
| . Z6 . | . A6 . | 9.95 : 1 |
| . Z6 . | . ZC . | 12.03 : 1 |
| . Z6 . | . D15 . | 10.10 : 1 |
| . Z6 . | . Y7 . | 9.62 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . Z6 . | 9.45 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . Y8 . | 9.61 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . A6 . | 10.33 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . ZC . | 12.61 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . D15 . | 10.52 : 1 |
| . Y8 . | . Y7 . | 9.96 : 1 |
