1995 Yamaha Virago carburetor question
On my my motorcycle, it ran fine last summer when I put it away for the winter. Started it up about a week ago and noticed that the back cylinder wasnt firing. Had spark back there, the piston is moving and the valve is opening. So I figured it must be a fuel problem, so I took out the carburetors (they are mounted next to each other), and took the bowl off the carb that wasnt firing, the float is working but when I took the bowl off there is was fuel in it. Should I put it back in and try it and see what happends? Or should check some other stuff on the carb, and tell me what to check and look for because I dont know much about carbs. Thanks

Re: 1995 Yamaha Virago carburetor question
If you still have it apart, you need to clean the pilot jets out. They have VERY small openings that get glogged if fuel is left in the bowl too long.(months) I don't know the exact carbs you have, but most CVs are similar. The main jet will be right in the middle. Unscrew the main along with the emulsion tube it screws into and clean them both with carb cleaner. Dont over tighten when you reinstall them. Very nearby the main jet you should find the pilot jet. It's usually sunken down in a hole and requires a small screwdriver to remove. To clean these, strip some stranded wire and separate one strand from the rest. Leave yourself 4 inches or so to work with. Thread it through the pilot jet top to bottom and run the jet up and down the wire a few times. If you look through it at a light before and after you should see a big difference. Have fun!
