underdrive pulley

i was wanting to put an underdrive pulley on my 02 z24, but i don't want to have to take out my somewhat small system (maybe 400 watts) and don't want my lights to flicker at idle. would a larger alternator pulley fix this or would there even be a point to the underdrive pulley if i put a larger alternator pulley on?

AEm make an alt pulley that cancels out any difference. The tru-power puley sets for the ld-9 have no cam sprockets and only the alt.. They only place I know for adjustable cam sprockets is www.jbodyperformance.com Toronto based but they are too hard to adjust! So there's no point!

Re: underdrive pulley

400 watts wont hurt anything w/a underdrive pulley. i used one w/2-type-r 12's and a 1000watt pheonix gold amp and there was no differance. it also helps to use a battery cap w/your system.

You'll gain power. But only a little.the alt will cancel out a bit but you'll save a bit on the lessened inertia of the lighter pulley. You wont really notice any difference! They more look cool imo. I'd only bother with a REAL power build. I'm going mild with the motor and heavy on the suspension mods so only one day down the line I may invest as further weight savings!

Re: underdrive pulley

i wouldnt bother with the alt pulley. the underdrive crank pulley will only give you about 5 h.p... 5h.p. that the engine already has, eliminate the a/c for another 5h.p.. all of this will result in quicker revs, and a small bit of low end power. you could also just get a pulley off of a 2.3 h.o. motor for cheap,if you can find one in a junk yard.
