Spash Shield

After my fiasco with my timing belt install, during the process I had to remove the splash shields on my Metro. I noticed that they are held in by the plastic snap screws that like to bust when you remove them. Can I get these at any auto parts store and does the car really need the splash shields or would it be fine to run the car without them?

They cost about $2,50 for three at Canadian Tire. I suppose they would be available at any car parts store.
