1995 Grand Am GT

Hello,
First Post...

While I was driving the other day the temp on my Grand Am shot all the way up, although I had only been driving for a short time (5-10 minutes). I quickly pulled over and let the car cool down. I checked the coolant and added some to the car. Car drove fine for a week. the other night I was driving home and the temp shot all the way up (Again only driving 5 to 10 minutes). Once again I quickly pulled over. But this time I noticed coolant all over the ground. Popped the hood and the coolant was coming out of the coolant overflow tank through the screw on cover. Had car towed home. Next day looked at it in the light and couldn't find and blown hoses or visable coolant leaks anywhere else except the screw on cover of the coolant overflow tank. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on?

Thanks for the help,
Jason

I'm going to suggest thermostat is stuck closed (hopefully) and you look there first, but worst case scenario, your head gasket is gone.

Thermostat closed, most likely. Bear to replace. You could try a fresh flush/fill with a good radiator flush chemical first, though, but that would be waste of time if therm is closed.

To make sure it is not heads, take oil stick out and see if coolant hasn't mixed in with oil.

Also have the water pump checked, I've said this in several posts. I had a bad water pump in one of my cars in the past and it did just what you have said yours did. It is an outside possibility but if the others check out OK give the pump a look at.
