HELP ANYBODY bmw 1998 525 tds Misfire

HELP, I have a low miles 67k which has a slight miss at low speed, noticable when changing up from 1-2nd at low speed, the engine will actualy cut out for a split second, a main agent had no diagnostics on the computer and didn't help an ex bm mec tels me an error code 01 is saying FUEL QUANTITY ADJUSTER MEC/ELECTRICAL FAILURE and says fuel pump is us £700 + fitting, can anyone advise? is this true! or can there be another explanation for this, also looking through some of the history a non main agent fitted a fuel filter? could this cause this problem? as his dodgy brake pads broke up and scored the discs?????

Re: 1998 525 tds fuel pump?

Fuel pumps on these models do give problems. I have had two replaced on my 525d. Cost here in Portugal last year was about €300 from a main dealer. I also had problems under warranty with the 2 fuel sensors in the tank. Usually you get the DDE light illuminated with fuel supply problems

Thanks Steve, but I think you are refering to the pump in the tank, I am talking about the fuel injection pump on engine, I had that problem on a 325 tdse thanks anyway

Re: 1998 525 tds fuel pump?

mercedes 190e petrol engines used to get the problem of stalling
i owned one and its was something of "blower". i forgot the exact term used
it could be electronic components also
would be better if you could check if the pump sending the right amount of fuel pressure before replacing
