police scanner mounting

Ok I have this police scanner. Its called pro 95 I got it at radio shack. i was wondering where should I mount it in my 1998 eagle talon esi? I wanted to put it on ym visor but the visor is to thick for the elt clip on the scanner. For those people that put police scanners in the cars.

Re: police scanner mounting

I got mine right to the left of the rear view mirror. Nice and high up, so it has good range. It may get annnoying being in your face, but its a good place to have it.

The mounts and suction-cups that came with the unit. If your doesnt have em, try to ghetto-rig something together.

Re: police scanner mounting

Police Scanner as opposed to radar detector. What is the advantage? Is it big and bulky? Is the one you bought a radioshack a decent unit? What did you pay?

Would you recommend using both? Do any of you have and pictures?

Re: police scanner mounting

Poliec scanners = portable hand held or stational receivers that pick up radio conversations, like you can here police talk over their radios, here were certain accidents or anything to do with fire/rescue. They also pick up cab services and other things that use 2 way radios for comunication.

Radar detector/fuzz buster = alerts you when there is certain types of laser and radar frequency's in the area like the frequency's used by police and their radar/laser guns.

Police scanners are illegal to have in your car in all 50 states. If you really want one, go to a first responder program for 6 weeks and get certified, then you are legal to carry one, but if there is an accident you are suppose to up and leave what you are doing and go to it. I am a volenteer firefighter/EMT/first responder in my town and when a call comes in if I am not doing anything important like at work, then I am suppose to go to that call.

Re: police scanner mounting

I would look up the fazer radar its a cloaking device. they will also pay for your ticket..IF you get one. I also buy 2-3 $20-$30 crappy radars a month BC cops will smash that shit. So you hide the cloaker and just have the crappy one there lol it works really good!!

Re: police scanner mounting

I think it was someone on this board that had the scanner under their head unit with the speaker mounted in the HVAC vent. I don't know how well it works but you couldn't see it unless it was the zoomed in pic.

Re: police scanner mounting

why not just get a handheld and toss it in the pass seat or in your lap...

when i was in 'need' of the knowledge of police radio stuff that is what i did. worked rather well too.

Re: police scanner mounting

I would see if you could mount it right in by the stereo, so if you have a double slot you can buy a kit thats flat and rig it into that. sounds like a good idea cause it wouldnt be in the way and it would be easy to see.
