Very bumpy ride when towing boat!!

I own a 97 sububan 4x4. I pulled my 18.5 foot bass boat for the first time yesterday. The difference in ride was huge!!!. It was very bumpy (not bouncy) and made a vibration. Mostly at speeds above 35mph. I rode like a wagon.
In the past I have pulled the boat with a 2003 chevy silverado 4x4 that I recently sold and the ride did not change at all.
My suburban rides great without the boat. I have never felt such a change in ride in any vehicle pulling a boat as I have seen in suburban.
thanks for the help

Re: Very bumpy ride when towing boat!!

I've towed a 4k pound 22' Sea-Ray with my 97 and didn't know it was there until I went up a hill or had to make quick stop. The ride quality didn't seem to change, maybe your shocks are bad or you might not have the right amount of tounge weight on your ball. I did tow a car on a trailer once and it did ride bouncy because the guy who's car it was wanted to make sure it was at the rear of the trailer to lower the tounge weight thinking the gas milage would be better, and of course it wasn't ( he was paying for the gas on the trip).
Also check the reciever and the ball and hitch size, it should all be snug (not tight! or too loose). I've also noticed when pulling my Jet-Ski's that total about 1k pounds, the ride is a little bouncy.
You may want to go to a professional trailer boat shop and get their opinion. I know Sea-Ray, Formula, and most all the big guys have actual specs for towing such as; tounge weight, hitch distance from axles, ball size and so on.
