Oil Sending unit????

Well I have an 89 Chevy S -10 Blazer 4.3 liter and I am having oil pressure problems still. My oil pressure is at 40 at start up and falls to 20 to maybe 25 pounds of pressure if I am lucky and this is at 60mph going down the highway. I have normal temp sitting right at 210 and NO knocking lifters, and oil looks good, full and doesn’t smell like it’s getting hot…so I am thinking it’s my oil sending unit, but seems weird that when I am at idle it’s at 0 pressure and the “Check Gage” is on and as soon as I push the gas it goes up to 15 to 20 pounds if I am lucky and the “Check gages” light goes away till idle again…so what do you think sending unit?

And if it is the sending unit were the hell is it like an exact location? It is on the block but where and what dose it look like? (89’Chev S-10 Blazer 4.3) I have also read some other threads saying it is a pain in the butt to deal with these what are some tricks to getting it out and putting it in?

Re: Oil Sending unit????

Does sound like the sending unit.... It's on the back of the engine next to the distributor. It's cigar shaped with a 6 point on it. Simply get the oil sending socket from your local parts store to remove it. If it's the original, your replacement will be smaller and you will require the smaller oil sending unit socket to put it back in...

Re: Oil Sending unit????

i go rlith says. I had it done recently on my 91. Goto www.lislecorp.com get the part number and either head to pep boys or ebay. but the old ones tip is different from the new and according to my mechanic you have to know how to bend it to get it in right.
