Srt-4 vs lightly modded lightning

First things first, i finally sold my TC and was able to go car shopping on friday. I looked around mostly at wrx's and SE-R spec-V's but didn't come up with much. Until i decided to look for Srt-4's, within 10 mins of me callen around i found a very nice 04 with only 4k miles on it. I couldn't pass it up. roughly 4 hours later i was the proud owner of a srt-4. Its bone stock with the upgraded sterio and the leather bucket seats.

Ok now for the race,
I called a friend of mine to inform him of the good news. We decided to meet at quiznos to just shoot the breeze and eat some food. I hadn't really beat on my car much yet so i was unsure of how quick it would be. My friend has a lighting (not sure what year, very nice looking though) with catback exhaust and i believe an intake. He also has upgraded pullys, and a shift kit. Now i don't know how accurate it really is but he claims to have 500 hp, and i am thinking its bhp not whp. Needles to say he has one of the fastest cars around. We decide to hit the highway and see what my new girl can do. We are going from a roll at about 40 me in secound gear roughly 4k rpms, He honks down and we hit it. Immediatly i hit boost and feel my self pushed back into the seat (WHOA DID IT FEEL GOOD!!!). we were dead even until i shifted into 3rd. Once i did shift into 3rd he started to very slowly inch past me. By the time he has about half a car on me i shift into 4th and decide to shut down shortly after. I was blown away with my cars performance. Right outa the box i am keeping up with a car that is worth 25 grand more then me. I was quite happy with my purchase to say the least.

I can now conclude i am addicted to boost and have come to the conclusion that my TC was alot slower then i thought it was. But when u think about it... i am still driven a Neon with a wing, a riced out dual exhaust, and a lil turbo, but i love it.

Re: Srt-4 vs lightly modded lightning

Congratulations on your new car. I've been in a few boosted cars, and honestly I would love to get my hands on a Turbo Kit for my Civ, but like most Joes, there's a lack of funds. Way to keep up with the Lightning. I'm not too sure of the specs on those, but either way, good race. Glad you had fun and great story. L8...

i would not call a SRT4's stock exhuast riced out one bit. its sounds damn good at idle and crazy when you open her up. just becareful not to add too much power to the car becasue the FWD will make that power useless from 1-3 when you start breaking the 300whp range.

welcome to the board, and the world of boost.

Re: Srt-4 vs lightly modded lightning

Congrats on the SRT 4, they are very fast cars even in their stock form. I got some numbers for the lightning, these are stock of course.
1999 Ford F-150 Lightning 5.8 14.3
2001 Ford F-150 Lightning 5.2 13.9

I also found some SRT 4 numbers (by the way what year is your's)?
2003 Dodge SRT-4 5.6 14.1
2004 Dodge SRT-4 5.3 13.9

Good Job

the only mods i am really planning is the mopar stage one mods and mb the stage 2.

But i would really like to beef up the suspension and not only make this thing go fast straight but let her handle nicely too.

Congratulations, those SRT-4's work really good. I was thoroughly impressed with them. Way to keep up with the modded Lightning as well. They are very quick trucks. Lovin' the boost.

Re: Srt-4 vs lightly modded lightning

My son (Who works at a Dodge Dealer) came home for lunch in one, needless to say we went for a quick spin. Man those run nice, roads were wet though so the traction wasn't quite good in the first 2 gears but once under way and hooked up in 3rd on full boil that little sucker pulled real tough, I was impressed and I wasn't even driving.

Re: Srt-4 vs lightly modded lightning

Really??

I thought the F-150's (including Lightnings) ran with the 5.4.
Yup, just checked Ford's SVT site, they are supercharged 5.4's.
At least the 1999-2004's.

Congrats on the purchase of an awesome car. I just sold mine last Saturday for an '05 Evo but in terms of being highway monster, the SRT-4 has few equals for the price or in the aftermarket. My advice to you is forget about stage 1. You'll just want stage 2 down the road anyways. So save up about $750 and buy S2 w/o toys from Josh Niles at Performance Dodge. Next thing you'll wanna do is a cat-back exhaust...figure $300-$500 depending on the setup. Mopar recommends it with S2 because it really frees up the turbo on the lowend and brings the car to life at the top end. At that point you're pushing about 280whp/310wtq...and you'll discover that with FWD anymore can be a little difficult to control. Next step is Mopar S2 or S3 coilovers. Figure between $900-$1200. Your car will be on fricken rails at that point. Other good mods are the Mopar short-throw shifter and a K&N airfilter. Don't even bother fucking around with aftermarket intakes. It's a ricer mod on these cars. They do little to nothing for performance. Just look at all the sub 13 second SRT-4's running on the stock airbox/intake and you'll see what I mean. Good luck man. Keep it on the road.

BTW...the SRT-4 I sold on Saturday is in my sig.

Yeah, but the original Lightning (came out in 93, the same year the Chevrolet 454 SS Silverado was dropped) had a non s/c'ed 351 (5.8L).

He was talking about 0-60 times (5.8s and 5.2s).
