Hard to start 1997 Blazer

Sometimes my Blazer is hard to start; however, it seems to start quicker in the mornings. The symptoms seem to behaive like it's flooding. So I changed out the engine sensor up by the water hose... because it was cheep an I thought maybe it could be telling the computer the engine was cold and thus over priming. But that wasn't the problem.

So what else can I tell you: Well, my fuel pressure seem fine, 63 psi with the key on and then 55 after the engine starts. However, my fuel pump is making a lot of noise and sometimes the pitch changes. Other than that I don't know what the problem could be.

I'm thinking about doing a full tune-up, because I just bought the car... but it looks like the wires, cap, roter, and plugs (AC-Delco) were changed within the last 30K miles. I have 117K miles on her now. Any other ideas on what can be causing this?

I have no reason to believe fuel is leaking from the regulator, but then again I have reason to believe it isn't. Is there a quick and easy way to check this out?

More than likely it's the check valve inside the tank. When you did your pressure test did it immediately (or rather quickly) fall back to 0? If so it's the check valve and nothing to really worry about. If the pressure held when you turned off the motor, then yes, I would agree that a tune up is probably in order, and you might want to run some seafoam through the engine. (do this before changing the plugs) and see how it works out for you.

Re: Hard to start 1997 Blazer

1.) Do a tuneup and replace everything needed. Fuel filter right to the air filter. Plugs, Wires, Cap and Rotor, AC delco Platinum plugs gapped properly, PCV valve, MAF cleaning etc....

2.) You have a 1997, you know they have ignition switch issues right?

Assuming its the check value, can this be overhauled...along with the fuel pump?

I found out that my fuel pump is $360 at auto zone -- and while I can see the fuel pump is an "interesting" design, I also have to believe you can overhaul this thing for a lot less. Is that possible? Can you overhaul a FP?

As for doing my tune-up, I'm on it right now. And, yes... I did replace the ignition harness.

Any ideas on how to verify I don't have a bad spark plug wire?

The fuel pump is seperate from your sending unit in your truck. It's about 80 bux at the dealer. The checkvalve is integrated into the sending unit and cannot be overhauled. You have to replace the entire sending unit. (about 270 bux at advance auto.)
