ABS and BRAKE Light - 1999 Grand Am

1999 Pontiac Grand Am
VIN 1G2NE12EXXM7xxxxxxx

Symtoms: ABS Light on, BRAKE light on. No ABS. Not sure about Traction Control.....

When I ran the ABS Codes on this, I came up with the following:
C1246 Rear ABS Channel will not move
C1286 EBCM/EBTCM Turned on the Red Brake Warning Indicator.

Some Points:
If I clear the codes while driving, the code does not come back until I restart the car and move. The car goes through its self test and then the ABS and BRAKE light come on.
I believe if I actually had tried to use the ABS (braking on a slick surface) I believe that would activate the light as well.
I do not have a manual for this car. Anyone know where is the best place to start?

One of your rear wheels isn't measuring a signal from your ABS sensors reluctor ring. You need to check the connection for the abs wheel sensor and replace it if necessary. Also welcome to the forum.

Thanks for welcoming me to the Forum. It is good to be here.

Here is a little more info. I hooked up a Vetronix Tech 2. I can tell you I am getting speed information back from each wheel which matches each other (other than when I take a turn). I can also tell you, I looked at each connector and they are both still attached to the wheels and they look very clean.

If I was not reading the ring, would I still get correct speed from the sensors?

Thanks for your input...

Re: ABS and BRAKE Light - 1999 Grand Am

Manzo,

Were you ever able to figure out the problem with the C1246 (Rear Channel) and C1285 ABS error codes? I have the exact same problem.

Thanks,
Mark

Welcome to AF Mark. One thing here we frown on is bringing back old thread such as this year and a half old baby. There is a Private message feature available as well as a email this member option by either click on there name and a drop down window will open or by entering there profile. In these such cases which you want to see what the outcome was. Thats the best way to go about it but welcome to AF again and hope you find your answer.
