92 5.0 liter V8 camaro upgrade path

im just wondering what are some upgrades to state off with? how many gains can i expect?

i put an open air element on it and a cat back almost right away...next im goin after the headers and intake....then possibly a bigger tb

You can do some free mods like modifying the intake box and bypassing the throttle body coolant passage.

Is it a TPI or TBI engine?

im not sure. this is actually my friends car who left for the marines and im in charge of it until he comes back. how do you tell the difference?

TPI will have a long aluminum plenum along the top of the engine.. TBI will have a round air cleaner ontop

in either case, best starting mods would be headers and exhaust, and a custom air intake..

If you remove the air filters, below them are baffels that can be modified to increase air flow, be careful, if driving through a lot of water, this could allow water to be sucked into the engine. You could also remove the screens on either side of the MAF sensor and add an air foil to the throttle body (TPI engines are considered throttle body injected, but they do have a throttle body). These modifications are minor and will yield small results, but it gives you a place to start that is cheap and not very labor intensive...
