auto trans in a CJ5...
Okay, I am attempting to have an automatic transmission put in my CJ5. I know it can be done because just tonight I did some looking around and found several with automatics in them. I have a SB350 engine. Problem is... because the automatic is longer than the manual transmission, the drive shafts are now shorter. The rear drive shaft is in such an angle that my mechanic is telling me that the Jeep is going to eat drive shafts and u joints like a kid eating candy. Does anyone know anything that I can tell my mechanic to try before he gives it back to me unfixed?????

automatic
I put a amc 727 in my cj5. If you put a turbo 350 in it no problem. Its shorter than my 727. You will have to do driveshaft mods. About the angle if you lower your skidplate you will compensate some for the angle. You can also change the pinion angle with a different angled shims. I was mud racing my jeep and i never broke the rear driveshaft.
