Rear window defogger

The rear window defogger on my 96 Passat does not work. The "wire" on the window seems to be intact. The light on the dash switch comes on when depressed. Could the problem be the fuse? If so, which fuse controls the rear window defogger? Thanks.

It runs off of fuse #9, I have also seen several bad switches.

Problem fixed! There was voltage at the connector coming into the rear window defogger, and voltage throughout the foil wires on the window. The problem was a poor connection between the window connector and the ground wire. Pushed it together tightly and the defogger worked.
