Wipers only work on high

I have a '94 Sierra. The wipers only work on high. This progressively got worse over the past year or so. If I leave them on slow or one one of the intermitant settings, they may start to work after a few minutes, but then quit again. I pulled the PC board out of the motor assy but found nothing obvious. Is the control for the speeds in the motor or somewhere else?

Also, the washer pump will only work when I'm able to get the wiprs to work too.

I think you'll find that the wiper module is the problem (that's the little circuit board that you pulled out)

There are some people on this forum and others that know how to repair them, but they are cheap enough if you don't want to take the time to fix.

I have seen a couple wiper switches (multi-function switch) go bad, but mostly the module is the culprit.

There was a recall on mid 90 sierras and silverados pertaining to this problem. You might want to check with the dealer about this, I don't know if the recall is still in effect or not.

I called the dealer here yesterday. The service guy says..."it was not a recall, it was a bulletin". Well, if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and acts like a duck...it's a duck! The GM documents clearly define it as a safety recall as does the Transport Canada web site...so it's a recall.

Anyhow, in the end my VIN wasn't included for some reason so I replaced it on my own nickel. I was going to repair my old one but the slip ring contacts have pretty much had it (370,000 kms later I guess I got my money's worth).

When the service guy checked the VIN, he did find out that there is still an outstanding recall on my truck for the brake switch, so at least I'll get that done.

Same thing happened on my dad's 94 silverado, it seems they had a cut off date sometime during the 94 production run and his fell after that date.
