306 heater not working

hi all
i have just got my hands on a 1.4 l reg 306 and have got some problems with the heater not working. the engine temp was all over the place so i have changed the stat at that seems ok now. i have tryed to bleed the engine and heater matrix but still no joy. i can get some heat out of the dash vents but none from the feet or the windscreen vents any advice would be great
thanks

Hi,firstly can you get good airflow at the windscreen and foot well?or is the problem only with a lack of hot air?

When you bled the system, the heater hoses were warm right?if the heat is the only problem and the airflow is good i'd say the heater matrix is faulty.

These are quite common on old peugeot 405&3o6's.

yes i get good air flow at all vents but warm air only at the dash vents heater hoses get warm when you bleed them but not hot do you think that a got flush out could do the job ? or would it be a new matrix

Your symtoms sound exactly the same as i had on my 406.
I changed the stat, but that only improved it a small amount, so i flushed the heater matrix.
Find two pipes that go through the bulkhead to the heater matrix, undo the two pipes and put a garden hose in one to try and flush it through. i also put two mole grips onto the two flexible pipe to prevent losing to much coolant. This worked really well on my 406, heater is good as new now!
