1996 Explorer, lost power when driving

I was coming home from town when the radio shut off, then the whole car died. I jumped it and it started, I made it home, shut it off, and tried to start it again but the battery was dead. I don't think its the battery because it wouldn't have killed the power when I was driving. I think it may be an alternator, anybody have the same problem?

the first thing i would do is have the battery checked,it could be a dead cell.if thats fine it will probably be the alternator.goodluck and let us know how it goes.
