Big Tranny Problems!

I have a 96 Blazer and for some reason, the tranny all the sudden won't shift. It was working fine the day before but it won't go over 40 mph... What the heck happened?!?! Can someone help me???

Have you ever serviced your transmission with new fluid and filter and had it flushed?

I bought it from my sister I and she said she had it service once before, but I'm not sure...

Check your basics! Make sure that the fluid is to level, is a rich, cherry red in color - not a muddy/dark red and is clean and slick to the touch between fingers when you rub a sample. Smell it too, does it smell burned? Compare it to a bottle of fresh fluid if in doubt. Does the engine rev when you hit the gas and it feels like you are just not moving any faster? Does it just race along in only 1st gear? The shifts it is giving you, do they feel distinct and firm, or harsh and jerky when it does? Is there a racing of the engine, like there was no traction, then a sharp *BUMP* when it finds the next gear? Any whining noises? Is your "Check Engine" light on? Please describe with as much detail as possible what you are experiencing when trying to speed up and slow down. But check the stuff I said above. Dirty, never changed fluid will just kill a tranny in short order. Try to get more specific details from your sister on the service it had too. Do try to find out how long the vehicle may have sat unused. Moisture collects in the engines and gearboxes when a vehicle sits idle for a long time. Be kind to supply us with a current mileage too - but still, perform a physical check of the fluid and get back to us. Did your '96 come with an owner's manual in the glove box?
