Question 1993 ford escort/ trans swap/ problem

Hello, I have a 1993 ford escort with an automatic transmission. Recently the transmission when leaving from a start will shift directly into 2nd instead of going into 1st and it will shift into 3rd and thats it...it won't shift in 4th gear. I was wondering if this a transmission problem or some sort of sensor problem. Also would it be possible to put a manual transmission into it..from a 1991 Ford Escort.

Thank You

these transmissions were plaged with problems. shifting is controled electronically so it could be a sensor. check for codes, if no codes, consult a local trans shop for advise

yes, converting to a manual is possible, I changed my 91 lx wagon from auto to manual. everything bolts up. your existing drive axles fit.
