3.73 Gears

I am probably going to be upgrading from the stock 3.23 gears to 3.73 gears. Any idea on how much faster quater mile times I will be? I know this will change the speedometer but how much? If I am rolling at 45mph what will the speedo show. Also how do I correct this, I have seen software for the V8's but not the V6's. Any help would be great, thanks

Re: 3.73 Gears

I did the change and u will love it. Gains in the 1/4 mile wil depend on ur traction. 3.73's will make traction a problem. U can use a hand held programmer or have it done by the dealer ship i think they might be able to do it. consistantly ran 3 tenths quiker than my friends with the stock 3.23's. but my 60' times really suck.

yup, that is what the gears will do to you.
60 times suck, but you will be going faster in the long run.

Re: 3.73 Gears

Well I found the answer

Jet SCU 2000 (Speed Control Unit) - This is a small electronic device that plugs into the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) to adjust your speedometer to correct for gear changes. In addition, it removes the top speed limiter. It is available for automatics only. Cost direct from Jet is $180 and its part number is 50102. It is only listed for 1998 and 1999 automatic models.

SLP Electronic Speedometer Processor - This is a small electronic device that plugs into the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) to adjust your speedometer to correct for gear changes. It will work with any F-Body, V6 or V8, 1993-2002, automatic or manual, and is fully adjustable. Price is around $180.

Hypertech Power Programmer III - Hypertech has been advertising that their famed Power Programmer is "coming soon" since 1998. Key features are supposed to include timing advancement, adjustment of the fuel curve, removal of the top speed limiter, reprogramming of the speedometer to account for gear changes, and more. This product has caused quite a stir on several message boards around the internet with people arguing back and forth about whether or not it is actually in development. Whether this product truly is "coming soon" or just marketing buzz remains to be seen. Price is listed as ranging from $300 to $400.
