95 limited fuel pump
hi. I'm new here and I just purchased my jeep from a private seller, and I have to say I love the car. I read that the whole "shuddering" and the acclerator not responding is pretty common, as it happened to me. so I took the car to get it checked out today and I figured it was the fuel pump, and it turns out that I was right. but they said that a fuel pump for it would be at least $650 and around $400 or so for labor. I think that price seems a bit excessive and I was wondering if any one here knew any cheaper prices//places that I could get one from without having to be raped by greedy mechanics. Please keep in mind, I know next to nothing about cars and any and all help given((installation, where to get it etc)) will be greatly appreciated.
thank you. |

actually, I already got the fuel filter changed ((yesterday)) but the mechanic said that I still needed fuel pump and it could "go out tomorrow, or in six months". I mean could just a fuel filter cause those problems or is it definitely the fuel pump? thanks. |

it happens very randomly, with weather and time not a factor. the check engine light has never come on. |

It is an expensive pump to purchase, I had mine replaced for about $480 from a dealer. They had the best price. I didn't feel like tackling it, because I had 20 gallons in the gas tank and I needed it the next day. Look around and see if they would install a factory reconditioned one. And make sure to replace the fuel filter.

Re: 95 limited fuel pump
$480 sounds like a good price from a dealer. I had mine replaced ('94 GJC) for $800 from a reputable mechanic (fuel filter included). A friend had it replaced for around $600-700. When mine went out, the car died, and had to be towed. There was no forewarning or stalling leading up to it. I agree with prior postings - shop around for a good mechanic.
