Is This Correct..? I Need Help...

Hey everyone, i wanna power my 2 front speakers with this 2channel amp. My 2 front speakers are 4ohm each. I want to run them in parallel to get 70watts rms times 2.

So basically i'd connect both +'s to the left channel's +, and both -'s to the left channels -. Now, how do i connect the rca's..ONLY the left channel..? Would this cause issues with the fader/balance in my h/u...? H/U is a panasonic 5410. I usually keep my fader all the to the front btw.

Re: Is This Correct..? I Need Help...

uh, why in god's name would you want to do that?

left speaker on left channel and right speaker on right channel = 50x2 @ 4ohm = 50rms to each speaker
both speakers in parallel on left channel = 70x1 @ 2ohm (the other channel is not being used since nothing is connected to it) = 35rms to each speaker

on top of getting less power, both of your speakers would be receiving the left channel's signal, which means your sound would be in mono, not stereo. The fade wouldn't change since you're not affecting the rear channels, but you'd lose the balance control (if you went left, it would sound the exact same, if you went right it would go silent) and all stereo separation.

well, if you hook two 4 ohm speakers in parallel, you'll end up with 2 Ohms, and that amp supports that in one channel only. You'd basically have mono sound, which sounds crappy for just about everything. You're not really going to get anything extra out of that amp by doing it that way anyway. Your head unit supports about 23ish watts to all 4 channels, and that amp only supports 50 watts for 2 channels. What would be better would be to hook the front 2 up to the amp, and leave the rear speakers hooked up to the HU. Then you'll have twice the power you used to have up front, and you will still be able to adjust balence and fader.

FYI, running at 2 Ohms does give you more power over all, but when you're dividing the signal between multiple speakers, you get marginal power output increases at the levels you are dealing with.

edit... ooops, SR20 beat me to it

Re: Is This Correct..? I Need Help...

Guys thanks alot, shortly after posting that i did some more reading and such, and i found out what yall just told me..

I'm gonna hook the 2 fronts up to each channel-4ohm, and get 50watts rms X 2. I will leave the rear channel on the h/u.

BTW, will this be a good improvement...? Yeah i know the amp ain't 80X2 rms..or even a 4channel, i just want to get better sound at higher volumes.

My speakers are pioneer 6880 which are 50watts rms each...so i'll be running a good 100watts rms for my front sound...rather then my h/u's 20-23rms per speaker..

Re: Is This Correct..? I Need Help...

It should be a decent improvement, even though there might not be much of a power difference, external amps are normally designed and built much better than headunit's internal amps and should at least give you a reasonable sound quality improvement.
