Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

Ok, I have a crappy 500W 4ch Sony Xplod amp that powers my 2 kickers right now. I was wondering, instead of upgrading (which costs more money......) to a Profile something (under 100$). Since it is a 4ch, and I am getting 2 RE 12", if I can put a channel to Each VC, so that equals 4VC, 4ch. Once I run another RCA cable to hook up the other two channels, And the amp is rated at 100x4rms, so, that would be 200RMS per sub, and they are rated at 175. Would this work?...and would it work well. Since I don't really want to justify spending some more money on an amp to power my new subs when they get here.

Thanks

P.S. - I don't know if this would work, but it is just something I thought of while eating supper last night.......

Yep, bridge it to 2 channels and then run each channel to each sub.

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

I'd think you'd have to be careful you didn't send different signals to each coil in each sub. (I think that's what poncho what saying.) If you send different signals to each VC, at best you'd end up with interfering signals and bad sounds. At worst, it could melt the whole thing down. Someone more knowledgable correct me if I'm off base.

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

Well, last night i ran another RCA to the amp, and bridged it....It has got some more power now, I think i will keep it now instead of upgrading.
It Now will dim the lights at idle......Never done that before....And I am running a 110A (maybe a 105A, I have forgotten exactly since I put it in)newly rebuilt alternator, and a 725CCA battery. (basically what was stock)

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

when you send a DVC sub mixed signals it will play both simultaneously (sp?) sounding like ass..... or if you got the same signal in reverse polarity it won't do jack..... just wire your subs in series and bridge.

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

Why would I want them wired in series...that would be 8 ohms woudln't it...and that means less power???...wouldn't i want to wire them in parallel, so therefore I would have 2 ohms, and more power?

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

You have 2 subs, so wired series each sub will be 8 ohm, together making a 4 ohm load. I doubt your amp can handle 2 ohms bridged

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

u said it was 4 ch so wire each sub to 8 ohms then bridge the amp one sub to each bridged channel.

What If my amp can't handle the 2 ohms and I set it up for 2 ohms?

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

Ok, I didn't know if it would just get pretty hot, and I could hook up a small fan to help cool it down....

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

actually if its an xplode 444 it is rated to 2ohm briged but i have one running 1ohm no problem. it took 0.5ohm to fry the first 2 chanels. i love making audio stuff blow up.

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

Ok, i went to a metting last night, (30 min away), and had it bumpin all the way there, untill about 6 miles away from where I was going, the power protect kicked on. Damn that amp was hot, if you left your hand on it for more than a few seconds, you would burn yourself....I was just wondering if if I could rig up a couple small computer case fans to cool it down or something....thanks

p.s. it is bridged and I think one sub is wired in series, and the other parallel, cause I swear that one moves more than another....sooooo

Re: Getting the most out of my 4ch amp.

ya just make you an amp rack. if you need any instructions PM me and i will get around to it when i can. if not it will be in my stereo project thread i will be starting as soon as my componets get in. Im going to be doing a full system build up thread. maybe PaulD will stickey it after i am done. it will eventually include door panels, amp racks, sub enclsoure building, EQing, gain setting, dampening, the works.
