air filter performance

Come across this test in another part of AF, Im very suprised how poorly the Big name filters were doing.. The test was done on diesel filters but I imagine they're all the same (just different sizes) I posted it because I know that 90% of the performance filters you guys are using are K&N.. Maybe a/c delco is the way to go?!

Anyone know of any other tests done?? Anyone have any input?

Re: air filter performance

I would still buy K&N filters. Their test was done using only 350cfm of air flow, my edlebrock 750cfm carb flows more than twice that much! A typical 350ci with good heads will flow around 600cfm, this is still a lot more than what they tested. The test obviously showed that K&N was less restrictive than the others, the trade-off is that it allows more dirt to come thru than other filters. Do you want less dirt or more power? If you change your oil as often as you should then there should be no problem with more dirt.

Re: air filter performance

more air goes through the K&N which means better performance which also means more dirt is going to come through the K&N also. The AC Delco has a finer filter which catches more but lets less air through..

Re: air filter performance

Well I am with Korndogg on this but I didn't know it was that bad at filtering. Figures there ad is full of it,about how small of a micron it can filter out. Thats some good info to have. Infact I think I recently told someone that the K&N filters out more dirt better than the factory replacement and I stand corrected big time.

wait wait wait, a diesel doesn't get compression from air gas and a spark, It gets compression by forcing the gas so compact that it explodes right? So what does a diesel need superior airflow for? I say the filter that stops the most particles is the way to go. And the more free-flowing ones are for us, the go fast guys.

Feel free to inform me if im wrong. Its 4:00 in the morning here and it could just be the insomnia affecting my brain.
