Small block chevy install/removal

Can someone tell me what books, videos, or manuals out there that I can take a look at to do my own removal and installation of a small block chevy engine. I am tired of being railroaded by mechanics out here, and would like to learn how to do this myself. It would be greatly appreciated if someone would respond.

Thanks
Tal

Re: Small block chevy install/removal

how much car knowledge do you have?
pulling an engine is easy you don't really have to have a lot of knowledge, however it does require some tools(engine puller, basic mechanic tools)

I have all the tools necessary. My knowledge of vehicles are mostly in the paint and body area, but I learn fast. What can you tell me? Thanks for replying.

Give me a holla. I was in Tucson, and I still know some people out there that are real good. One of my partners owns a rim shop out there called Platinum Rollas.

Re: Small block chevy install/removal

heres the way i do it
1.remove hood mark hinges and hood so when replaced it'll go back in its original place
2.disconnect batt.
3.drain fliud and remove radiator
4disconnect all hoses and electrical connectors that will not allow engine to come out
5.remove the bolts from the tranny bell housing
(if automatic don't forget torque converter bolts)
6.attach a chain to the side of the heads with some decent bolts , and pull it out

Re: Small block chevy install/removal

I just moved from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach SC area. I spent 8 years in Arizona learning from a older mexican guy. I am thinking of moving back to Arizona this summer. The money out here just isn't the same. Cats would rather put 22-26inch wheels on their car and get a paint job from Maaco.

Re: Small block chevy install/removal

Tucson is where I was at for a while. I learned by hanging around a guy that used to work on my cars. One of my friends owns a rim shop in Tucson called Platinum Rollas, and the paint shop is called Distinct Image(Louis Canez).

Thanks for the information!
