Well, as far as I can see, you're doing quite well with what you know. I was going to suggest ESL classes, but you seem more advanced that those. I'm not really sure what to suggest, honestly.

That is the Meriam Webster website. You can look up any word your unsure of how to say, and you can hear the pronunciations of words you don't know how to say.

Re: What is the best way of learning English ? I need advices
Listen to those language CDs or watch films as Jay said. Um, be sure to repeat the words though like they do in the film. My aunt learned by watchin' soap operas...TV. Yeah, anyhow, um, my g/f learned from, hangin out with people, but she was in America so...TV is the best thing, just be sure to mimc what they're saying.
Edit: Below: In so in lies why your s/n suits you...

To answer the question accurately, although there are many ways to learn, and some good suggestions given here, the absolute BEST way is to be born to english speaking parents in an english speaking environment, and learn it from birth.....

I'd suggest that you watch as much British television as possible, or British films. The BBC style of pronounciation is easiest to understand. If you want to learn proper pronunciation, it's tricky. The language is spoken globally,in many different dialects. I'd suggest that you also make friends with a few Brits or Americans working out there as well, if it's culturally acceptable. There's quite a few English speaking immigrant workers in Bahrain.Good luck! |

wow... the most useless response ever posted on AF. Congratulations. Hey dude, I think you're doing great. About punctuation, I wouldn't come to the forums to learn that. You are already better at using proper punctuation than a lot of people who post on here. the hardest things about the english language are suffixes, and punctuation. Most people who speak english their whole lives don't ever get the hang of it. When you combine two words, for example: "they are", you can shorten that by saying "they're", which sounds just like "there", or "their", but means a whole different thing. You combine the words and replace the missing letters with an apostrophe. This is an apostrophe ---> ' "There", is a place. You point to "there", you can go "there". example: "I will meet you there." "Their" is something that someone owns. example: That is "their" house. "They're" is what they are. example: "They're going to be here soon." A lot of people never will understand that. You are not the only person on this forum who needs to learn that. (but you do seem to have a grasp on that concept) The word "won't" is a combination of "will not", but it would sound silly to say "willn't", so instead we say "won't". (just a random example) Suffixes: there are different suffixes for different time frames. This is the hardest thing to learn about English. We change words for past, present, and future. For example: went, going, go. But the thing that makes it really hard is that you can say about a million different things to mean the same thing. I will use the word go as an example of different ways we use our language. "I am going to go." which is usually said like this "I'm gonna go". (but "gonna" is not technically a word, even though most people use it rather than saying "going to") "I am going now.", or "I'm going now." "I went yesterday." "I went five times yesterday." "I have gone 5 times this week." or "I've already gone 5 times this week." English is too damn hard to explain. in your post above, you said: "I dont mind at all if someone correcting me." To say that correctly, you would say, "I don't mind at all if someone corrects me." With words that end in "ing" ("ing" is the suffix), you need to use the word "are" or "is" before that. So to use "correcting" correctly, you would have said, "I don't mind at all if you ARE CORRECTING me." or you could say, "I don't mind if he IS CORRECTING me." or if you notice he said "I hope you don't mind me correcting you." "me" could be replaced by "him", or "her" or "us". In your first post you said: "I've really feeling disappointed that people same my age or less can speak this language and I can't." here is how to say that properly "I am really feeling disappointed that people my same age, or younger can speak this language but I can't." the reason you can't say "I've feeling..." is because you are using feeling as a verb, a verb is an action, "feeling" is what you are doing. you cant "have" a verb. But because english is so messed up, feeling can also be a noun. A noun i ssomething that is real, a person, place or thing. You can have "A feeling" because that is totally different... I hate english. here are the past, present and future tenses for the word feeling: past: felt present: "I do feel", or "I am feeling" future: "will feel", or "going to feel" so when you say "I've" it depends on which word you use, if it can be present tense or not. If you say I've, it would be properly said like this.. "I've felt". or with a different word you can say "I've got a (insert a noun)", or "I have got a (insert a noun)" which is present tense, and also means, "I do have". But if you are just learning english, there is really no way to teach you how to use those, because you see the same word, spelled the same way, and it means different things. You just have to remember that english is like that. The prefixes and suffixes and the punctuation are by far the hardest things about english. It basically comes from experience, it isn't based on any real set of rules. Just try to notice examples of things like what I have just written. I learned very good english from my first grade teacher, and I believe that's where it all starts. If you learn to use the language improperly, it becomes habit, and is hard to correct. I think the idea about reading books is the best thing you could possibly do. There are many many exceptions to the things I've said, but I am not trying to teach you all of them, I just want you to be aware that there are many "rules" in english that are broken. It is a rather unorganized language. Keep reading, and most of all, talk with people. You've got a really strong sense of the language so far, I'm sure you will speak it very well, soon.

Re: What is the best way of learning English ? I need advices
I would suggest holidaying in English speaking countries if it's possible. You will gain a lot from every day tasks, like reading a menu and ordering a meal. You will also hopefully meet some English speaking people who can help you in person.
