Unhappy Dome Light Won't Shut Off

Hey Everyone,

Just yesterday I got out of my truck and closed the door, and the dome light will not turn off. I yanked the bulb out and left it like that. The switch that controls the interior lights seems to work for dimming the dash lights. I haven't had much time to troubleshoot the problem, but I thought I'd throw the question out here in case anyone might have seen this before.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gregg

I've seen it quite a few times.

90% of the time it is one or both of the door jamb switches. What year is this? I'm guessing that it is pre-2000 OBS.

On occasion the headlight switch will be the culprit, but I always start diagnosis at the door switches.

Hope this helps.

Hey GMCTech,

Thanks for the answer. My truck is a 1990. I'll try messing around with the switches.

Thanks again!

Re: Dome Light Won't Shut Off

I had the same problem a coule years ago on my '94. Mine was the wiring under the drivers side plastic sill cover under the door. The ground wire had corroded to the point where it came apart and was shorted to ground.

Does your light have a timer on it? My 96 Sierra dome light will go out 30 seconds after you close the door. Just watch and see if the light goes out after a certain period of time.
