car dies when shifting between gears

1995 Buick Regal GS 3.8L 460TE Trans. (I Think.)

Hello. I have a minor problem which is more of an inconvienence than a real issue. What happens is I will be driving, say I miss my turn. I pull into a driveway to turn around, back up in reverse, come to a COMPLETE stop, put it in drive and everything is fine, until I give it even a little gas, at which point the RPM's drop to almost 0 and the engine dies. I have also noticed it sometimes in the same situation, only going from drive to reverse. It always starts right back up with no problem. It doesn't always die, but you can at least hear the engine idle down really really low when changing between R-N-D. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for what could possibly cause this to happen. Besides this, my car is in pretty good shape. Any idea;s would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have a 99 LS
Had same trouble...dying for no reason. Had it towed to Buick and they diagnosed as a faulty crankshaft sensor. Replaced it and no more problems.

RE: car dies when shifting between gears

Thanks for the reply. However, I have had my CPS replaced about two months ago due to it not starting when it had been running for a while. Anyone have any other ideas??

Thanks.
