Borla or Flowmaster
i am debating between exhausts does any one have any data as to which exhaust is better or is it all going to be individual preference and what i can afford.

I used to run flowmasters, but am getting ready to put a Magnaflow system on my 98 Sub and will probably put the same on my 04 Crew Cab. Magnaflow has good sound and performance gains and also stainless steel with lifetime warranty.

Out of those two, Borla. Out of all of them, I'm partial to Magnaflow as well.

I also have an extended cab Silverado.....and I tried the Flowmasters and really regretted it. In the extended cab, it sounded good at idle...but driving around produced a HUGE amount of resonance (40 series). It drove me crazy and I changed mufflers. I understand they work much better in the standard cab. I also seemed to lose alot of low-end torque with the flows (4.8 V8 engine).
I don't mind exhaust noise (just sold a 93 Cobra with headers and dual flowmasters and offroad h-pipe), but they didn't work well with my particular truck for my tastes. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Borla or Flowmaster
i have flowmaster on my 6.0 and i like it alot, so i would say flowmaster, the interior resonance is not that bad with a 50 series

I've had my Borla muffler since December of '99 or January of 2000(been a while so i can't rememeber). Havent had any problems with it. It still is rust free. I love the sound b/c its not too loud but its not too soft. Inside the cab its noticeable but far from annoying. Wish I would have gotten the cat-back though.

I had a Flowmaster 70 series on an ext. cab 94 that I used to have. It had a nice tone to it but was pretty quiet. The 40 series are sold to be loud and the charts show as people will attest to that they produce a lot of interior resonance.

I bought my truck used with 41K and the flowmasters w/40's started showing rust. I think the truck sat for 3 months before I got it from the dealer who repo'd it from the tx coast area. Anyways within 3 months the guts of the muflers were so rustaed that they rattled at any speed. I could not stay ahead of the rust on the 3" tips. The installation required the brake line be held out of the way on the driverside to prevent burning. BAD installation. I found a catback 3" single stainless T304 Bosal side exit with polished tip and muffler on eBay from a guy in my town unused. After installation the sound has gotten better, real deap sound on the bottom end and all the noise is gone by 55-60. At 80 I have conversations with my co-worker who has a hearing aid and do not have to raise my voice. 30K later all I have to do is wipe the pipe and it shines like the day it was installed.
Point being, skip anything that is not stainless from the catback. Also do your research, do you want to be drowned out and have to scream to talk. Good luck.

Re: Re: Borla or Flowmaster
Do the research, if you get a great bottom end rumble you can set off your neighbors car alarms at 700 RPM from 30' away. And at 700 RPM my truck does not even start to have any sound. Being 3 different alarms I don't think all of them set them too sensative. Some days you just have to do it for entertainment at 5:30 in the morning....
