89 Idle Problem

When I start my car, she idles at 1000rpm then slowly goes down to 500. At 500 it will putter for a little, the the car will just stall. Also when driving it sometimes stalls in neutral or when stopping. It's not getting enough power. When I push the gas in and increase the rpms it stays on, but as soon as I let go of the gas, it will drop below 500rpms and stall. Is there a way that I can increase my idle?

Re: 89 Idle Problem

When you shut the car off can you hear something clicking a few times in the engine bay? Try cleaning out the ISC (idle speed control) valve with some carb cleaner or such and see if it solves the problem. It's probably packed full of carbon and other buildup anyway after 15 years. There are only two bolts and a few hoses holding it on so it's real easy to remove and install. If you don't know where it is, it's attached to the motor side of the intake manifold on the front of the TB, has a big black cap and lots three hoses going in/out. Other than that I would pull the codes just to make sure nothing else is wrong.
