Wheel Lugs

I WAS PUTTING NEW WHEELS ON MY 350Z AND I COULDNT SLIDE THE NEW FRONT WHEELS ON. THE INNER RIM WAS HITTING A BRASS COLORED OBJECT ON THE HUB WHICH IS THE SAME LINE AS THE WHEEL STUDS. CAN SOME ONE TELL ME WHAT THAT IS, CAN IT BE ROMOVED AND HOW IT AFECTS AFTERMARKET WHEELS
