Re: motor poll

500 in mods wont get you far..., i say b20 for the most torque. 6 psi wont get you far either. I have a friend boosting 12 psi on a stock LS.

Re: motor poll

on a properly build D block you should be able to boost 10+ psi - my plans are to boost 8 psi at the most since it is my daily driver

Re: motor poll

it all depends on wut u'r goals r and wut kind of performance driving u plan on doing w/ the car.
if it's road coarse, then u'd want to stick w/ a D-series to save weight and not get understeer, prolly go w/ the Z6 or Y8, maybe the turbo A6, cuz u'r also gonna need more money in suspension and roll cage.
drag racing, a properly built B20 w/ a B16 head and LSD tranny would get u FAR FAST. i see that wasn't an option, but it's a mix of two.
autocross, again the lighter D-series, like the Z6 or Y8 and only 500 in mods, because again u'r gonna need the money in other areas and to save weight.

as a side note, the reason i said stick w/ the d-series in road corse, even though there are open straights. my buddy races a CRX in the H2 class of NASA, and he has always used a A6. He just got his new engine last month, and it's another A6, but this puppy has more than $10k invested in it from his sponsor. So a A6 motor w/ turbo sounds like fair game. By the way, his new engine is all-motor, and he told me has 310hp at the crank (but i'm a little skeptical). Once it gets warm again around here (OH) he's back out on the tracks, and I'll be there.

310 to the crank... I smell bs. But an A6 can handle a lot of compression and will scoot along quick.

From personal experience, I can tell you that if you drive on curvy roads with varying altitudes, the d16a6 (with lightweight components) matched to the si tranny can be very fun to drive...

Re: motor poll

b16 will be the fastest out of all of those choices, followed by b20 and b18 which arent far behind. and after you can boost the b16

Re: motor poll

YAY! B16 gets my vote again. It will be quick in basically stock form (not comprimising reliability), and can handle daily driving just fine because its meant to be revved like a fahker.

B20 with a B16 tranny would be a bit faster I would think, but with my B16 tranny it revs at 5,000rpm @ 80mph. I drive about 30 minutes at 80mph constant both to, and from work so I want something thats okay with keeping constant revs like that.

I'm not saying the B20 might not handle it, but I don't know as though I'd want to be driving that close to redline for extended periods of time.
