1990 Tercel questions

Hi I actually just found this site. Read through alot of threads but no answer too my questions.
I am removing or trying too remove the lower crankshaft pulley due to massive oil leak either coming from the oil pump gasket seal or the main oil seal.
I am at this moment trying too remove the nut from the crankshaft pulleys so i can get behind the timing cover. Every time I crank down on that bolt it gives(like something is slipping behind it) Am i turning in the right direction? (I am turning clockwise if looking at the bolt) Where is a good place to hold the lower crankshaft? I have a wrench on the top one too keep them from both spinning using the timing belt to to hold them both. Is that a good idea or not?
No I don't have air tools for this. Just a breaker bar and alot of muscle.

First of all, this isn't an easy job. You must get the engine at top dead center before you do this. It'll line up the keyway on the crankshaft pulley at the top and make your life a little easier...

You WILL have to drop the passenger side of the engine, again not that easy. You have to release the motor mount while the base of the engine is on a jack. Be very careful with this. If the motor isn't lowered, you'll never get the pulley off the crankshaft. There's two bolts at the base of the motor mount that point up, must be removed from underneath.

Do what you can to lock the crankshaft pulley in place and turn the main nut counter-clockwise to remove it. I found a small prybar did the trick. Careful not to damage the nut or surrounding area. Remove the smaller bolts but back off the center bolt, don't remove it til the pulley is ready to fall off.

The crankshaft pulley isn't easy to get off... Be gentle and patient with it. It's fragile. I broke some of the edges off of the pulley on the gf's car while doing this. Luckily it wasn't the timing mark.

And hey, if you're going this far, buy yourself a timing belt and change it at the same time. Money well spent.
