Intermintent Overheating
Since i got my 2000 4.0 L jeep Cherokee sport in July, i have experienced overheating off and on all the time. Thus far i have had the following replaced: Thermastat, Radiator, water pump, head gasket, Heads shaved and balanced, computer and wireing, and some other smaller stuff. It still continues to overheat and i have no idea what it is that is causing it. It runs at 210 degrees but just before overheating it slowly goes up to 220 and as soon as it passes that jumps past 260 and stays there sometimes other times it gradually cools down. Any suggestions????

Is there a electric fan? Is it turning on?

You would be running a bit hotter due to the shaved heads - your compression has gone up. Check your fan clutch - it might not be working right. Also make sure your radiator cap is holding pressure with the right antifreeze/water mix. Also - did you go to a 3 core radiator? Much more efficient then a 2 core stock. Something else to think about - get a computer on it. Your timing might have changed - that can definately lead to an overheating problem. Also running lean will do that too. Exactly when does it overheat? City (stop and go) or Highway? Last edited by Po Pilot; 02-17-2005 at 07:46 PM. |
