I guess we'd need to know how much hp you want to add and how much you are willing to spend? You can do intake K&N filters help a little but you need to get rid of the filter box to really help. A free flowing exhaust (probably need custom work done) Spark plugs and wires. Check with local shops to see what they can offer you. I personally have a 99 Se and plan some work to help out in the power department but i am going to do it myself.

Re: Adding hp to gp 3.1se?????

Try some of these sites
http://www.rsmracing.com/

http://paceparts.com/index.asp?PageA...OD&ProdID=8645

And try this post from Cass;

If I had a Grand Prix SE with a 3.1 litre I'd probably want to try to make it faster too. I'd probably do a CAI and add dual exhaust, but I think that's about all you can do to the engine....short of a CSC or turbo kit. You could probably do some suspension mods to make the car hadle better. It may not help your quarter mile time but make the car faster overall.

The biggest problem you're going to run into is the lack of availability of aftermarket performance parts. The fact is that the 3800 is used in so many different GM cars.....Grand Prix, Camaro, Firebird, Monte Carlo, Regal, Bonneville, Impala, Intrigue, etc.......there is a decent market for performance parts. I say "decent" because the 3800 aftermarket is nothing compared to.....say, for instance, the small block Chevy.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the 3800 was voted one of the 10 best engines of the 20th Century by Ward's Auto World. These engines mod well because they can take the abuse. I'm not sure how well the 3100 would fare if heavily modded. It's just not made for that. The 3100 is a standard fare, no frills, work horse engine.

I'm not downing GP SE's. I drove one for a week as a rental. It was a nice car with decent performance. But if your looking to smoke some tires and outrun some sports cars, I think you'll end up frustrated.

Re: Adding hp to gp 3.1se?????

Replace stock catback with either an aftermarket setup (preferred) or even just with a stock GT/GTP catback, U-bend delete, make a custom CAI because it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the few made for the 3100 and you get the same gains. Replace plugs and wires. At this point you can either start diving into replacing the downpipe and cat with larger DP and high-perf. cat and go from there... or you can start saving $3k-$4k for an L67 swap, go to www.L67swap.com for info.
I've got an SE with the 3100 and have done some modding to it, but cost gets up there quickly and I've decided to just save for a swap. Good thing is I'll get the swap, already have an aftermarket exhaust and u-bend deleted and a cold air box/intake setup done.
