I need to know what to use as far as brands, ie: Accel, MSD, Ac Delco ect. for my tune up, I need spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, Cap and Rotor all for my 89’ S-10 Blazer 4.3 liter V-6 which has about 60,000 on the rebuilt engine. I also need to know if I should leave the pre set gap on the plugs or set it to what the car manual says ( 0.045 ) If you could be specific on the plugs and wires it would be great this is my first time with this car. I just want to make it run better, it has had poor acceleration, like almost no passing gear kind of, so I think it needs a basic tune up. If you have any other, tricks please tell me. I plan on changing the PCV valve also and checking the EGR. I also have a very bad Cat and was curious if that can make it run bad also? I do plan to replace it but not sure, with what kind I should replace it with, something not to expensive like 1000 bucks or less. Also curious what is the best oil for my car and oil filter, currently have 5w-30 Castrol GTX and a crappy Fram not my doing but what could I do to make this better too?

Re: Tune up on 89 S-10 Blazer ???
On GM vehicles, I usually stick with AC delco parts. You know that they were made for that engine, not just crossed over. Whatever you do, make sure that the cap and rotor are the same brand. different brands have different specs. sometimes they won't work right with each other. Definitely check and regap the plugs as necessary. As for the cat, if it's bad, it can make a big difference on the performance. I have seen some that would keep the engine from running, they were so clogged. If you know that's bad, replace it first.

Re: Tune up on 89 S-10 Blazer ???
Use AC delco tuneup parts if you can.
Set the gap to what the manual says. Use AC delco plugs ONLY.
