shift linkage pin, no more problems, easy solution.
just pulled my friends B16 and I always dread pulling a honda cuz of that pin holding the shift rod to the tranny, my freind gave me a good idea as I was crawling under herre with the punch and hammer. "palm-nailer" if you dont know what it is its a small air tool that fits in your palm and theres a sleeve you put the head of the nail in and then when you push it down the pressure of the nail activates it and its like an air hammer and just pounds the nail in.
a solid rod would work better but I just used a drill bit where the smoothe end was the right diameter and threw the pointed end into the sleeve, positioned it to the pin, gave it a little push and POP, knocked it a third of the way out with first pop, wear goggles though cuz the bit went flying. put it bakc in and pushed and it popped it maybe 4 times and it was out, tok like 10 seconds and it was out, I had tried with the punch for about 2 minutes and couldnt get it, this is the first time ive EVER goit the linkage of under the car, Ive always lifted the car HIGH and pulled the engine/tranny with the shift rod connected still anfd took it off out of the car. side note Im now the owner of a B16 long block(but whatever broke loose ripped a hole in the pabn and tore out 4 oil pan bolts in the process so a rods broke most likeely and who knows what it did to the block, but the heads good and Ive got 2 non vtec blocks lying around here...

Re: shift linkage pin, no more problems, easy solution.
So the thing's called a Palm-Nailer? I'm going to have to check this thing out. I've helped my friend with tons of swaps and it's always been a time consuming problem. Great tip.

I had a puller and the canter bolt was the right diameter but I had nothing for the claws to grab on to pull against. I never heard of using a palm nailer.. and yep, plam nailer, borrowing one evry swap I do from now on.

Re: shift linkage pin, no more problems, easy solution.
thats not the way i had it. my cresent wrench would sit flush with the shift linkage so the gear puller hooked on the 2 sides of hte handle and because the cresent wrench didnt sit flat, there is a space so it just pushed it loose. kinda bent my cresent wrench though
