On the boat.

Got notice that my car is on the boat and should be here in about 2 weeks.

Maybe I will be able to sleep then?

Re: On the boat.

I dunno, if I were you I would prob keep thinking about it 24/7. I'm excited even about my new Audi, an Aston DB9 would definitely leave me sleepless for days

Glad you are getting close

Sloopy,

I am glad you are getting close to getting your Aston.

I have now had my Mercedes for over a month and totally love it. Not sure yet that given a chance to do it all over again I wouldn't have picked the DB9.

I have spent time with Marty looking at the DB9 and it is very, very special.

I really wish they would have put in some more electronics. I just can't understand why they don't have some of the very basic things that even a $30,000 car has.

Nevertheless, the DB9 is absolutely gorgeous and I am sure you will love it.

Below are two links with pictures to my new SL600. One nice surprise was this new Black interior for 2005 which came with an upgraded leather package.

Take a look and let me know your thoughts. In the meantime, good luck with your car. It will be very soon now.

Thanks a lot.

Marty said that they took my car out of order, so it is arriving about one month early, which is fine by me. I have been having trouble sleeping for some time now.

I had a friend look at a DB9 the other day and he noticed the mirror on the back of the visor. I think they should have put on something a little more finished or left it off altogether.

On the positive side, all exotics have some of these issues which does add character. I guess that means it’s an exotic.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your car. I like blue, and yours looks very special. I also like the drop hard top. I especially like the shack where you took the pictures. How much ground is it on?

Lets keep in touch and maybe we can meet up someday.

John

Re: On the boat.

Let me know when you get your car. Thanks for the compliments about my car. I am ready for a new one already. So far not that happy with the ownership experience.

Thanks for the comment about the shack. We are just slightly over an acre flat. It was a double lot.

Let's get together when you get your car. I can meet you at Cole.

Regards,

Matthew

Sounds good to me.

Tell me, why are you not happy with the experience? I hope it isn’t similar to what I had gone through.

I had bought my third car from the same dealer, a 04 CLK 55. It was a real POS. The worst thing was how Mercedes treated me when I had trouble. They are no longer the company I had dealt with in the past, and I probably will never own another one.

If you are still interested in a DB9, I think Marty may have one that a customer is giving up. You may want to check.

I will let you know when the car comes in. Should be around the 6th.

John

PS. He had a new Vanquish S the last time I was there. Absolutely stunning.

Sloopy,

Very close to dumping the SL600 with 1400 miles for a Bentley Continental GT.

How nuts am I or do you understand? Or do I not understand?

Lovinsl600,

My first thought is, what ever floats your boat. (Pun intended) My second thought is that you may like comfort with a preference of something exclusive.

The SL600 would be a hard car to beat if you want something quick and comfortable. The trouble is that all SLs kind of look a like, and there are a lot of them on the road. I don’t ever go to the city with out seeing several. More so than Porsches.

The Bentley is a stunning car and would take one any day over the Merc, but I am now prejudice against all Mercedes. This is if I wanted mostly luxury.

I had shopped for over a year before ordering the DB9. I wanted something faster than my S2000. Something with more comfort and quieter on a long trip; 2 plus hours. Something that would handle as well as the S. I also wanted something nimble. The Aston is lacking just a little here, but is surprising when pushed. It has two distinct personalities.

I also appreciate fine craftsmanship and enjoy just washing and waxing my cars on the weekend. For this reason, better than average paint finish is a must. I bought my second Range Rover in 04 and love the quality. Nothing quite like the English cars. After discussing with my wife, she suggested that I look at the Aston. One visit and a drive sold me.

I also like cars with a soul. The S2000 had one and my Range Rover has one. The Aston certainly has one. The one thing that I hadn’t considered was the exclusiveness. I drove the DB9 back from Napa and had to stop and put gas in it. Boy does it draw a crowd. Another time I had a guy drive up beside me and started waving and giving me the thumbs up. I hate to admit this, but I kind of enjoyed the attention.

My two all time favorite cars that I have owned was a 1986 E300 and my last Range Rover, 1998. Both my wife and I hated to let them go and wanted both to go to a good home. I remember getting in both to go somewhere when they had 100k on them and I couldn’t help but think that they were the best cars I had ever driven or owned. My new Rover has this same quality and I think the Aston will be the same. If it is, I will be a happy man.

What ever you decide, I wish you all the best.

John

Sorry to break up this little party here, but I think that the Aston would be pretty good in the terms of quality. I mean any $100K+ car should. Could you even get it serviced at a Ford dealership? But its awesome that you are getting one. If only I had the money...
