If you're looking to gain loudness over sound quality, go with ported. That one 12" won't require a very big box, but probably bigger than what you have now. I'm sure bumpin', ng, or sr20 can help you out with more detailed advice.

Yeah, if you want a custom designed ported box designed for your sub...hit me up. PM me your max dimensions (in terms of Width, Depth, Height) and I can design and layout one for you with a cut-sheet of the exact size of all pieces needed. $15...WOOOOOOOOOT, peace

While I'm in a thread about boxes, the guy with the two kicker L712's who thinks he's going to beat me was trying to say using a terminal with the box will reduce power from the amp to the sub. I've never heard of this, but is he right? Or does he just not know what he's talking about? If he's right, I'd assume it's a negligable power loss.

Yeah, that's complete bullshit. Even if it DID do anything (which it really doesn't) you were right in assuming it's negligible!

Re: Need help new box...

kicker recommends between 1-4.6 cu ft. i have a 15 vr and put it about in the middle of what they recommended and im pretty happy about that decision.. loud and still hits the lows well. give it about 2 cubes if youre goin sealed.. if youre goin ported its a whole different story but unless you pay someone for plans of really know what youre doin it might not be worth it..

and give it 3-400 watts rms. closer to four prolly... they handle their power fairly well IMO.

Re: Need help new box...

well comp VRs already have shitty SQ.. so i suppose its not gonna make a huge SQ difference id say you might as well go ported..

with one 12 youll probably end up wanting more.. and going ported will give you some extra output. if you want it loud go ported they gain spl in a hurry when ported. if you tune in liek the low to mid 30s itll get damn loud.. or you could keep soem more SQ and tune a little bit lower but.. i dotnknw man this is up to you

Re: Need help new box...

1.75-2.25 cu ft after port area.. those are kicker specs but you prolly dont have to follow them exactly.. and they recommend 300 watts for ported.. wouldnt go much more than 350.. but anybody who would have make you plans should have a pretty good idea based on this of what size/tuning to make the box.
