A 67 Firebird needs some help

I recently decided to look into purchasing a classic muscle car. Two blocks away from my place I found a 67 firebird. This car has a two year old Jasper 350 engine that makes 300 hp. The wheels are stock from an 87 firebird. The front right fender had been ripped off in an accident a few years ago taking both grills with it. They were eventually replaced with 67 firebird parts. There is what the owner calls a "stress crack" on the left side behind the driver side windows. It is about 5 inches long. The owner claims it is from having such a powerful engine in the car. The are other more pressing problems with the car however. For one, the steering wheel, which was made adjustable when replaced with a racing wheel a few years ago is very weak. It is not the wheel itself, but the steering is very loose. You can wiggle the wheel but the car wont track. Also, the transmission catches when you put in gear. When I took it for a test drive, when starting from a stop sign, the transmission caught for a moment before finally accelerating. The tranny is a 3 speed auto. Also, the ground clearnce is horrible. The back end is raised up a bit, the owner thinks, and the front end scraps the ground over any dip at all. When going over a speed bump even at 5 mph the front fender still scraped the ground. The front suspension would have to be fixed because it can not be a daily driver the way it is now. Thirdly, the ac is based on old freon and would have to be converted to be used. The fan and heat dont work either. The origional gold interior was replaced with black velour except for the headliner which is still gold. There is also a sheet metal screw missing in the front quarter panel and a sound of clanging metal in the front quarter panel. The brake master cylinder needs to be replaced and it needs a new paint job.

Now the man is asking 11k for the car. From what condition the car is in, do u think that it would be worth fixing up. I was thinking about fixin it up but I was really looking for a manual. I also cant hope thinking that a firebird that hadnt been messed with so much might also be more valuable for resail. What do u guys think?

11 Large ones!? He should give you some of what he is smoking.
That is exactly what I mean by overpricing. This guy is obviously looking for a fool to pay that money, hope he never finds one. The steering seems to be the smallest problem as the ball and nut powersteering units all have play, but the condition of the car seems to be a joked, compared to the price he is asking, especially with a shot tranny. STAY AWAY.

If it were a "400" car (orignally equipped), it MIGHT be worth the asking price. In today's market, certain Pontiacs are getting pretty crazy for prices. You can have the original documentation on the car provided by Pontiac Historic Services. You can find them on the net. For a nominal fee, they will provide you with a copy of the original build sheet for that VIN.
If the trans is original, it was a 400 car. The '67 with a 3-speed auto was only the TH400, which was not installed behind 350s. Those would have the Super Turbine 300 (often mistakenly refered to as "Power Glide" because it has 2 speeds).
Virtually everything you need to return it to pristine condition is readily available through the popular restoration houses (Performance Years, Ames Performance are two Pontiac-specific shops that won't sub in Camaro parts).
If you really want a '67 Firebird, you're going to be hard-pressed to find another one. They're getting scarce and expensive.

they are getting scarce alright,but expensive they only become because people pay that stupid money, this car described by the fellow member is nowwhere near a car worth 11 k. yeah if everything would be original and working one can demand some money, but not for something like this, please...you can find projects like this for half the price man!

hey look if you want a 68 firebird and got 11k to blow a junk like that then look here. on e-bay right now there is a 68 buy-now for 9k with 68k miles rust free pontiac 350 and engine work done that he says he can prove along with a second set of seat covers. yes it is purple but dark enough to be standable it is a faar better deal that that one you looked at. go look at this one it seems okit only has four days left on its auction!
