act 2600 6 puck streetable?

i have a 91 talon awd and im looking for a clutch for it for when i put it back together. i've already spent too much money on this thing so im looking for a cheaper clutch and i found a guy selling a act 2600 6 puck from his 1g that he just wrecked for 275. this is a lot cheaper then any of the other 2600's i've found but im a little worried whether a 6 puck disc is gonna be streetable. im gonna be the primary driver but every once in awhile somebody else will have to move it so it cant be too aggressive
thanxs

Re: act 2600 6 puck streetable?

With practice you can make any clutch streetable enough to live with. But its going to be rough on the tranny. I've seen many people install those clutches and start ruining input shafts, input bearings, etc, not to mention the usual blown out center diff. I think if this is a serious race car that sees some street use, there are cases when its worth the risk (I considered seriously at one point). But for a car that you need to get you around, I would avoid it.

cool thanks. im probably going to end up getting a centerforce DF clutch then since i've heard so much crap lately about act and the centerforce is cheaper.

Re: act 2600 6 puck streetable?

My brother has a "6 puck unsprung race clutch." I don't really know what all this means, but he drives it every day. He said it was VERY hard to get used to but he does it fine now.

Re: act 2600 6 puck streetable?

i got a 6 puck sprung 'racing' clutch [not 2600#] and other than some chatter in 1st if you don't give it enough gas, it's fine with me. although i'm going to get a ACT 2100 street disc...

but the one i got now grips like crazy even if it is hot as hell...

Re: act 2600 6 puck streetable?

Just be careful with those unsprung discs. That chatter is the hub eating into the input shaft. Thats the main issue with them. You can get a 6 puck with a sprung hub, I think the only one is RPS. And most poeple do go with a lighter plate, 2100 for ACT. The pucked discs have less surface area, which raises the pressure per square inch on the friction material. You can drop to a 2100, still get more clamping force because of that, and still be able to hold the power with a little less chance of breakage. FWDs can worry a little less about breakage since some of that force will be dissipated as wheelspin, however slight it may be.
